MacBook Air Change the username in MacOs terminal

Hello! I wanted to change the username in my terminal on a MacBook Air. I went to the Settings - Users and groups - then I selected the Admin User and clicked on the advanced settings. There I saw a line, that said “User Folder” and I changed it only the words after the “/Users/” line. Then I clicked on the “Done” button and I got a pop up notification that said to me: “Please reload your computer”. I reloaded it, and the computer drive is now empty. I have no more files, passwords and even the documents that I had on my computer. Can I return it?

vielen Dank, dass Du Dein Anliegen hier teilst. Wenn ich Dich richtig verstanden habe, sieht es so aus, als wären Deine Daten verschwunden. In Wirklichkeit liegen sie sehr wahrscheinlich noch im ursprünglichen Benutzerordner und sind nur nicht mehr mit Deinem Account verknüpft.

Am einfachsten schaust Du im Finder unter „Benutzer“, ob Dein alter Ordner noch vorhanden ist. Dort solltest Du Deine Dateien finden. Falls nötig, kannst Du in den Einstellungen auch wieder den ursprünglichen Pfad eintragen. Falls etwas fehlen sollte, helfen Time Machine oder iCloud bei der Wiederherstellung.

Es ist gut zu wissen, dass Änderungen in den erweiterten Benutzereinstellungen riskant sind. Apple empfiehlt dafür die offizielle Anleitung:

Thank you for sharing your concern here. If I understood you correctly, it may look as though your data has disappeared, but in reality it’s very likely still in your original user folder – it’s just no longer linked to your account.

The easiest way to check is by opening Finder and looking under “Users” to see if your old folder is still there. You should find your files inside. If necessary, you can also reset the path in the settings to point back to that folder. And if anything seems to be missing, Time Machine or iCloud can help you restore it.

It’s important to keep in mind that changing advanced user settings can be risky. For this, Apple recommends using the official guide:

Du hast nur den Pfadnamen deines Admin-Profils geändert. Den neuen Pfad gibt es allerdings auf deinem Mac nicht. Also endet ein Systemstart im Nirvana….

Falls du ein aktuelles Backup hast, würde ich dir raten, den Mac zurückzusetzen und aus dem Backup wiederherzustellen.

Einen anderen Weg kenne ich nicht.

Funktioniert das überhaupt ? Er hat - wenn der Pfadname geändert wurde - mMn keinen Zugriff mehr auf das entsprechende Userverzeichnis. Mir ist vor vielen Jahren einmal etwas ähnliches passiert, als ich den Usernamen eines Adminkontos geändert hatte. Den Mac musste ich neu aufsetzen (zum Glück war es ein neuer).

Es ist gut zu wissen, dass Änderungen in den erweiterten Benutzereinstellungen riskant sind.
