- Download from websites on iOS 18.5
- #1
Hello,
I noticed sind iOS 18.5, maybe earlier, that I cannot save data on my ios device from a website, on many sites. This was noticed trying to save GPX files from my navigation planning website, and soon after I realized others would do the same, even gemini.google.com.
The symptom is that instead of downloading the file to my filesystem on either iCloud or local via a filesystem pop-up window it presents me with a confirmation request to save it on „planner.navigation.com“ or „gemini.google.com“ or the like, whatever the webserver name related.
And yes it saves it somewhere unknown (RAM?), as you can open that information on the download arrow widget on the top of the windows (that, if the format is readable). But that must be internal, temp, definitely not on the openly available filesystem, there‘s nothing registered in any folder or last saves view.
Once I installed google docs to save the gemini dialogues it worked, it now always directs to the google docs app/page. But that‘s not fixing the issue it‘s circumventing it.
The navigation website has no related app doing the exact same thing, so there‘s no circumvention.
Here accepting the download a .GPX file to „planner.navigation.com“ can only be cancelled or executed. Such can be opened via the download icon on safari, but not presented, as it‘s a .GPX files it tries to be loaded in a Text-Editor.
This must be a Safari Setting mistake, or a bug.
Some websites with a files library to download properly linked files - these work. But generated files from Website script do show the above describe symptoms.
Thank you, for your support.
Best regards,
Carlos.
